We had a really good time in Nanning. We had the opportunity to have a few days off and were able to make it to a lot of restaurants around the city. My translator Ike, like Ikea, showed us around town quite a bit. On our last day we went out for a day on the town before heading to the theatre. First we went to a thai restaurant that was very good. Everything had a good amount of spice and the food was very fresh.
The funniest thing was that right outside our hut, where we ate lunch at, there was a group of gardeners and from the look of it they were taking out the dead leaves out of a tree. They had a coat hanger on the end of a long stick and would stab at a leaf for about 5 minutes before pulling it out of a tree. Again, I guess everyone needs a job.
The fried rice was baked in a pineapple shell and all the dishes did not contain bones. There was one dish that had raw fish in the middle of it. We didn’t have the heart or desire to try it.
We then met up with our translators for an afternoon of shopping. Here is the sea of moped’s outside a department store.
As we were heading out we noticed a minor difference of culture…
And the trash ladies with there cool hats!!!
This is a “put-put” as we call them. You can catch one to go a few miles around the city.
They took us toward the bus station. We waited about 10 mins and then felt it was necessary for a cab. It was only about 103 degrees with a humidity of about 125percent. Unfortunately a bus came so we took that.
We learned a very important fact about buses in Nanning. An unair-conditioned bus is 2.2 yuan and an air conditioned bus is 4.6 yuan. That is a difference of 30 cents and 55 cents. Guess which one we picked? Well next time we get on a bus in 103 degree weather, I am splurging that extra 15 cents!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Random Picture.
We spent the afternoon shopping for dvd’s, software, Buddhist gifts, Chinese hats, and electronics. In addition I got the screen of my camera fixed!!!! So happy, for about 60 U.S. bucks I got the screen fixed so now you get more pictures.
When we got back to the theatre they were placing our containers for load out. Here are a few pictures from the theatre.
And here are the list of rules they announce before starting the show in Nanning. And I promise you, every single rule is not listened to.
